London’s Poshest Residences Sold Over the Pandemic

It is no debate that the pandemic tore many people’s lives apart. But was it the same case for the rich?

January this year saw an unprecedented 49% of increase in demand for properties across the UK. This has also brought up UK’s average house price from £216,500 to £242,000 within a year, according to a report by Zoopla. While many Londoners have yet to financially recover from the ongoing implications of a global pandemic and can’t possibly afford that dream home given the ultra-competitive market, those who have managed to thrive can’t snap enough up out of it.

Kerbs looked at some of the most expensive residential properties sold across London, over the past 12 months.

Sold for £22,750,000 last August, this magnificent, detached residence of over 10,000 sq. ft boasts 9 ensuite bedrooms (with the master bedroom having not one, but two ensuite bathrooms), a private gym, a swimming pool and a wine cellar – of course. Situated in one of London’s most sought-after neighbourhoods, it is no surprise that it only took the agent 3 months to find this multimillion-pound property a new owner.

What’s particularly posh about this high-end property is definitely the combination of large space and prime location. Apparently, you don’t have to sacrifice either, as long as you are willing to put down a good amount of money. It’s also noteworthy that the interior design of the home was finished to an immaculate standard, inspired by the style seen in one of those Art Deco New York hotels back in the 1920s.

The Grade I listed 6 bed home is the witness of how London’s luxurious housing market grew. Skyrocketed from less than 3 million back in 1997, it was once again sold for £17,525,000, with an astonishing price up of 649%, 24 years later. This historic house is simply too stunning to be viewed virtually. The property sits right in parallel to St James’s Park and Birdcage Walk Conservation Area, beating 99% of the home listings that describe themselves as ‘central’.

These beautiful floor to ceiling windows (pictured above) guarantee you an all-day sight full of greenery as well as a bright room filled with natural light. Apart from the 5 bedrooms, it also offers a range of leisure facilities including a sauna, a home cinema, a gym and many more. How much more luxurious could it be? It has a lift installed. Yes, a lift, literally! With that new addition, you can reach the upper floor where more bedrooms and two sitting rooms are, within seconds, effortlessly.

Yet you have another discreet and charming property that’s spread over four floors (including the basement) with 8 bedrooms and 4 living rooms alone, sold for £13,500,000 last August. Quietly situated on a perfectly private road of Hampstead Village, this detached modern home is probably the best fit for a family who values privacy and space for their time together. Recently refurbished and remodelled, this high-spec house even comes with parking space that can accommodate 4 cars at the house front, fully gated for security.

What’s the most impressive feature about this home, you ask? Well, the well-interconnected living space (pictured above) certainly is something to wow at. Surround yourself with an abundance of light thanks to the generous use of double volume window throughout the house and a glass ceiling at the rear rather than a regular roof. Through the glass doors, you can easily step into your spacious garden for an exclusive, undisrupted view of the living room and open kitchen where your family chill and cook.

Would you ever consider investing in real estate in the future? If so, which home would be your first choice?
