Nassim’s jacket: ‘I wore it for an art portrait’

Finding that perfect vintage treasure hits differently. It’s the simple pleasure of scoring that unique item that seems to have been made just for you. Every day a reader hypes up their best vintage find. Nassim, 23, knew he found something special in his patchwork leather jacket.

What is your favourite vintage piece?

My favourite vintage piece is a Kenzo jacket in leather patchwork.

Where and when did you buy it?

I bought it in a vintage shop in Paris near the Bastille. It was pretty random because when I walked into the shop the jacket wasn’t out on sale yet, but the salesperson was just about to hang it on the rack. I immediately laid my eyes on the jacket and grabbed it.

What made the jacket catch your attention?

What caught my eye was the beautiful colourful patchwork. I was also at a point in my life where I wanted to be more funky and extravagant and it matched that style exactly.

Why do you like it so much?

I love it because it is a truly unique piece, I’ve never found another like it.

How often do you wear it?

I don’t wear it that often because I love it so much that I don’t want it to get damaged. Also, it can be hard to style it because it goes well with basic pants but not so much with something underneath.

How does it make you feel when you wear it?

When I wear it, I feel like everybody is watching me. But I really feel great in it and I find myself beautiful.

How much did it cost?

I think I paid €150. For me, it was a huge amount, but I did not hesitate one second. I did not have any money at the time but I didn’t mind spending that much because it was such a good deal.

Can you describe a day when you wore it that you remember fondly?

For my birthday last February, I was in Madrid with some friends and I wore it all day long. It was obvious to me that I was going to wear that special jacket on that day.

In addition, it was the jacket I chose to wear for a portrait the Canadian artist Chloe Wise made of me.
