Vanessa’s boots: ‘They’re ready to hit the road!’

Finding that perfect vintage treasure hits differently. It’s the simple pleasure of scoring that unique item that seems to have been made just for you. Every day a reader hypes up their best vintage find. Vanessa, 27, thinks her black leather boots are the coolest shoes in the room.

What is your favourite vintage piece?

This is really hard, because I love all my thrifted pieces (cliché I know) but at the moment the piece that excites me the most are my thrifted black leather cowboy boots.

When and where did you buy them?

I had a phase where as soon as I entered a thrift store, I would make a beeline straight to the shoe section, trying to see if I could spot a pair of cowboy boots and praying they were my size. The hunt went on for months, until I finally got lucky with these ones.

What made them catch your eye?

What I love the most is that they aren’t really over the top. Don’t get me wrong, I love a wild, funky shoe but something about these ones just seemed cool. Like the boots know that if they enter a room, they will be the coolest shoe there.

Why do you like them so much?

I love that they are easy to style and practical; as long as it’s not icy outside, these boots are ready to hit the road!

How often do you wear them?

I don’t have an exact count but I wore them to the point that I needed to get them mended. Now that they’re fixed it’s time to break them out again.

How do they make you feel when you wear them?

I won’t lie, wearing these shoes comes with an air of importance. Like I have something cool to do, someone cool to see or somewhere cool to be. Even if it’s just another quarantine grocery store run.

How much did they cost?

I doubt they cost more than $15CAD (£8.75) and I definitely think they were worth it!

Can you describe a day when you wore this item that you remember fondly?

The most memorable day was when I wore them on a date with my partner. The date was amazing and I felt great in what I was wearing, so that was definitely a plus for the evening.
