Brace yourselves to be astounded by stunning scenery in our night skies this year. To make sure you don’t forget, we’ve created an astronomical calendar marking all the unmissable predicted celestial events set to be visible on UK soil in the coming months.
Morning Meteors
Various meteor showers are set to grace our skies this year. Mark your calendars to make sure you don’t miss out on potentially capturing a glimpse at these incredible celestial events.

According to experts from the Royal Observatory Greenwich, the clear skies of early dawn mark your best chances of seeing the best light show. Choose a place where you have wide visibility of the sky, and remember, as with all celestial events, that patience is key.
Midsummer Supermoon
The moon is set to be at its closest proximity during the shorter nights and warmer months, with two predicted supermoons set to be visible in august. A supermoon occurs when the moon is in the closest range to earth in its annual orbit. Don’t miss this perfect photo opportunity.
Watch out for the supermoon on the first and last days of August.
Look out for a lunar eclipse
On the eve of Halloween, be captivated by the rare sighting of a partial lunar eclipse this year on the 28th of October. Despite being the most common type of lunar eclipse, they are regardless a rare occurrence, and even harder to capture, according to Spacecentre. They appear amongst the stars at a maximum of three times per year. This will be the first and only appearance of a lunar eclipse in UK skies this year. Keep an eye out!

While the sky might dazzle with natural light shows, for many UK residents, celestial events are difficult to witness because of the huge amounts of light pollution drowning out the stars. NOX is on a mission to put the stars back in the city skies. Are your night skies polluted by city lights?
