Blanca Arimany: fashion, trends, and finding your style in the digital age

,

One of Spain’s most successful young fashion influencers is 23-year-old Blanca Arimany (@blancaarimany). She has always had an interest in fashion, being introduced to the sector through her fashion designer Mother. Apart from fashion, Blanca has also studied Global Communication Management in Barcelona, her home city. She wanted to gain knowledge in international marketing so she could eventually combine her passion for fashion with her chosen studies.

Today Blanca has nearly 700,000 followers on Instagram, a platform where, with her style and elegance, she helps her followers and passers-by to understand fashion and learn about the latest trends. When interviewing Blanca, she opened about upcoming trends, what we’ll see this summer, her favourite fashion items, the one she dislikes the most, and much more!

How did you start your career as a fashion influencer?

My career in social media started in the most spontaneous way. It all began in 2023 when, quite organically and with no specific goal in mind, I posted videos of my looks on TikTok for going to the office. From there, I gained my first 20,000 followers.

Then Lucas, my partner, suggested that I make my Instagram account public. What happened was that followers from one platform would follow me on the other. I clearly remember hitting 10,000 followers on Instagram on the 10th of July 2023, and now, two years later, I have a community of around half a million followers.

How would you define your personal style?

My style has evolved over the years, but I think I’ve now found my niche where I feel comfortable and creative for day-to-day wear. I would define it as classic, elegant, but with a chic twist.

I think one of the reasons my community has grown so much is that I wear very basic pieces which anyone can find in their wardrobe. That way, I can inspire and give ideas for everyday outfits.

What are your sources of inspiration?

I always say that my sources of inspiration in this industry are Claire Rose (@clairerose), Emelie Lindmark (@emitaz), and Hannah Schönberg (@hannaschonberg). I also get a lot of inspiration from Pinterest and the content I consume daily on my social media.

How would you define your trend-following followers?

I think my followers are after trends that won’t go out of style so to speak—like the ‘Old Money’ trend.

How do you think you influence fashion?

I think there are many types of influence today and my niche is ‘less is more.’ So I believe I influence those girls who are looking for a capsule wardrobe, who want to dress chic but elegant, without too many colours, and feel comfortable wearing basic pieces.

What fashion trends are we seeing right now?

As I mentioned before, there’s a huge diversity within the concept of fashion today. In 2023 there was a notable boom in the ‘Portuguese Girlie’ style, which involved combining all kinds of prints and colours in a way I never would have put together myself. But then I saw it on some influencers and thought everything made sense, and was fun.

In 2024 leopard print made a comeback and tabi boots were also very fashionable. Although I’ve always stuck to my own tastes—you’ll typically see me in neutral colours, whether it’s white, black, beige, or various shades of brown.

When it comes to jewellery, I’ve always been a bit bolder. I love all types—whether silver or gold. Classic accessories are key to making an outfit chic. You’ll often see me wearing bracelets and earrings that stand out. But as I always say everything comes back, so maybe in a year we’ll be wearing slim-fit jeans again—something that seems unthinkable right now!

What will we see more of this summer?

For me, I think we’ll see a lot of linen—pieces like Bermuda shorts, men’s shirts, tops, and low-waisted trousers. I’m also loving a trend that’s very popular right now, which is basic sandals with a slight heel of not more than 4 cm high. I think it elevates any summer look. Another trend I think is super cool is the capri trouser. I also see a lot of tops with open backs, which is something I’ve always worn in the summer and is a wardrobe essential for me.

Which item of clothing could you not live without?

In my capsule wardrobe, I could never live without a basic pair of jeans—slightly loose, low-waisted.

Which item of clothing horrifies you?

Wide crop tops.

What summer trend are you most excited about?

Right now, I’d say the capri trouser. It’s a trend that’s always been around, but had faded a bit, and now it’s coming back with a bang.

Is there any trend you’d love to see stay, or any you’d like to come back?

At the moment, I’m not a huge fan of slim-fit jeans or high-waisted ones so, if it were up to me, I’d be happy to continue with the oversized, low-waisted jeans trend.

What advice would you give to those wanting to follow your footsteps as a trendspotter?

I think the most important advice I received when I started, and the one I would give, is to find your niche. Just because a trend is popular doesn’t mean you have to jump on it—find what you love and stay true to that. Another super important thing is how you communicate with your audience, because that’s what they’ll see of you.
