STAPLE ITEMS NEEDED TO ACHIEVE THE KOREAN FASHION LOOK

The Hallyu (Korean) wave is well known global popularity of South Korean culture that has struck many countries in the west.  From Korean food, dramas and K-pop, the country has managed to captivate the world with it’s culture. They have also done this with fashion trends, from various styes- soft girl/guy style, streetwear, grunge they cover everything. From the hit Korean reality dating show Single Inferno reality star Jia who influenced many to wear Chanel inspired rich girl outfit to K-pop idols. 

 K-pop and idol culture has been labelled the main influential power, because of their unique styles that makes the simplest item like a hoodie look trendy, they’ve monopolised the fashion trend for the youth, as we see the streets filled with Korean inspired outfits. Many of you interested in the style, may be unsure of where to start and how to fit it into your own personal style. Well, don’t worry here is a guide to 8 essential pieces to build your own Korean style wardrobe. 

  1. Mom/ Dad jeans

With 90s fashion style becoming a trend in the UK, Mom jeans and dad jeans have taken over and replaced skinny jeans. Mom jeans leave room in the bum and thigh area.  These jeans can be dressed up with high heels or white heeled boots whilst creating a subtle glam look.  You can swap them out for white trainers and a striped top for a comfier casual look.

A much-loved Korean trend perfect for breaking into the spring weather, the 90s trend is making a perfect comeback. The under-blouse acts as blank canvas allowing you to be bold with the colour or pattern of the dress, allows you to be creatively free. 

4. Pastel colours (solid)

Having solid colours is a must, especially pastel ones if you want a Korean aesthetic wardrobe. Pastel colours create a youthful, soft feel to your outfits. Its best to coordinate with two or one pastel colours or you can settle with a striped pastel sweatshirt and pair with any type of bottoms. 

5. Blazers

Blazers create a sophisticated look to your wardrobe as we enter into spring, choosing a plaid or solid colour blazer, paired with a plain white tee and jeans, will easily level up the look of your outfit from basic to elegant. Making it perfect work meetings. 

6. Blouses

Ruffles, frills and lace blouses are high on the trend in Korea, as they add soft feminine aesthetic to jeans or chinos. These types of blouses are great for those who don’t like wearing dresses or going into the Spring/Summer season, its perfect for going for cocktails with the girls or a casual date with your partner.

7. Oversized Tees &hoodies 

Oversized tops and hoodies are a centre piece to Korean style, it’s a much-loved item in Korea for its practicality and ability to make for an effortless, casual look. It’d be impossible not see people wearing them in the high streets of Korea from Seoul to Busan. Oversized hoodies or tees allow for you to be free to choose the colour or design you desire you can never go wrong with a couple of them in your wardrobe. Pairing an anime tee with cargo pants and Jordan A1s is a perfect outfit.

8. Trainers 

Footwear can make or break an outfit. If you’re a Sneaker-head already then you know the importance that comes with buying the latest trainers. When looking into Korean fashion an essential item found with most styles are trainers. Investing in trainers is a must with Korean fashion, as they add relaxed yet stylish tone to any outfit. Whether they’re paired with a dress, denim jeans, trousers or shorts. They finalise the look.
