If there is one thing most humans agree on, it’s that they like to know things, and that includes the future. Tarot cards provide an insight into the different areas of your life, and give spiritual guidance which can help you to connect with your inner self and wisdom. over the last 5 years, the sales of Tarot decks have doubled according to Lynn Araujo, the editorial and communications director for U.S. Games Systems. it is estimated that sales tripled during the first year of the coronavirus pandemic, the same way sales surged during the 2008 financial crisis as people were looking for way to deal with their fear and anxiety.
Tarot cards are a deck of usually 78 cards placed in a specific order that can hint at a story in a persons life – whether past present or future. Each card has it own meaning which is made personal through the interaction between the one doing the reading and the one the getting a reading. It can give answers about themselves and people around them, it can help them prepare for the future and most importantly it can give someone peace of mind.
During the late 1700’s, Jean-Baptise Alliette, a French occultists popularised tarot by releasing the first definitive guide to tarot readings. Peoples love for tarot readings was reignited with the release of the rider -Waite deck, first published in 1912, which to this day is the most popular tarot card deck you can find, especially with beginners. The Rider-Waite deck included a printed guide on how to read the deck and the meanings of each card. In the Rider Waite Tarot, each numbered suit card, or pip card, is fully illustrated. This gives all 78 cards a unique feel that fully expresses that individual card’s story, this was a major change to the traditional aesthetic of tarot cards which further boosted their popularity at the time.
