Spooky Queens
These gloomy queens ghost some of RuPaul’s seasons and aren’t the most common amongst other types. Yet, ever since Sharon Needles made an appearance in season four, other queens, such as 11th season winner Yview Oddly, showed that having some gloom can shine a spotlight on the Main Stage.
During the 11th season, Yview made a name for herself when she walked on stage with a cybernetic catsuit. This suit, made out of actual circuit boards and metal, drew its inspiration from one of Yview’s dark nightmares, in which a lion chased her in a video game. “I want to bring that to life and sell a full fantasy of this thing that used to scare the sh*t out of me but make it look awesome!” she tells Entertainment.com.
As for Sharon, although season four saw many polished queens, we can agree that she wasn’t one of them with her apocalyptic couture runway look. “I built something aggressive and dark that washed away the polish and showed how punk drag can be.”
These BOOS have a gothic edge and a lasting impression. They are masters of incorporating glamour with scary. One might even say it’s October 31st all year round for them. While putting the idea of not fitting in when you were born to stand out to work, they rock some sickening and iconic looks.
