Lo-Fi beats to chill and have sex to

We’ve all heard of Lo-Fi beats to study to, but here are the best ones to get it on to

Lo-Fi has been there for us during stressful exam periods, keeping us calm in times of trouble, always in the background when we need it. But does its calming effect also work as a soundtrack for sex?

Marianne Rizkallah, head music therapist for North London Music Therapy, believes this to be the case. “It has relaxing qualities that you would want for sex. It has quite a steady pace and there aren’t too many surprises so the music isn’t the main event,” she says. “It provides an atmosphere without demanding attention.”

The beauty of Lo-Fi is in its simplicity. It’s something to fill the void without distracting from the task at hand, and with an entire world of beats to choose from, you can match whatever vibe you’re going for. Here’s a handful of Lo-Fi beats and playlists we’ve curated to get you in the mood.

The romantic one

Playlist: Raining in V E N I C E by the bootleg boy on YouTube.

This is the perfect playlist for meaningful sex. The first song ‘Gold’ by Dominus has echoes of ‘I love you’ being sung throughout – not ideal for a one-night stand unless you’re trying to catch feelings. The mix is slow-paced and atmospheric, with thunderous undertones and rain sounds adding to the sultriness. YouTube clearly gets the vibe, as it hit me with a Clearblue ad midway through. Safety first kids.

The one-night stand one

‘Coupe_90’ by Masked Man, ‘Never Think Twice’ by Yestalgia, ‘Get out Of My Room’ by noddi.

You may not be in the right frame of mind to put on a carefully curated playlist of Lo-Fi beats when you’ve just brought a stranger back to yours, but if you change your mind, we’ve got this. These beats are enough to show you have a fun personality, with ‘Get out Of My Room’ providing a not-so-subtle finale to your night of passion.

The fun one

‘So Good’ by ZeDe, ‘Sombre’ by Lamar Azul, Byjoelmichael and Denisova, ‘glitter sax’ by Gemp and Seps.

You wouldn’t necessarily expect it from a music genre that’s designed for relaxation, but I would argue that Lo-Fi is inherently sexy. Here for a good time, not a long time? These tunes are upbeat and breezy, suited to creating an energetic vibe that’s straight to the point. A special shoutout to ‘Sombre’ for it’s textural funky layers.

The experimental one

‘Rain Falls’ by Lawrence Walther and Yestalgia, ‘Sax in the rain’ by 7&Nine and Khayden, ‘Bloom’ by Clifford and Soul Food Horns.

Maybe you’re feeling daring and are in the mood to try something a little different – whatever you’re into, we don’t judge. When delving into a new position or kink, why not match your mood with something equally unconventional? These synthy Lo-Fi beats have a mildly psychedelic feel, with an oscillating rhythm that’s guaranteed to keep you calm while feeding your curiosity.

The intense one

‘Space’ by Jost Esser and Mensing, ‘spin & shoot’ by j a r j a r j r, ‘Midnight Cruise’ by Board-Man.

If you want to take things slow but maintain momentum, steady and bassy beats are great for some background mood-setting. The richness of these beats adds a velvety layer to whatever you’re getting up to, with ‘spin & shoot’ being a standout suggestion for its sexually-charged rap sample.

The lazy one

‘Rising’ by Dimension 32 and Julius, ‘The Abstract’ by Nick Wolf, ‘In The Mood’ by Tibeauthetraveler.

This one goes out to those who love morning sex. These laid-back jazzy beats are best for quick, lazy sex where you can just about be bothered to pull down your pyjamas. No need to go to the effort of picking out the optimal music for the mood, we’ve got you covered.
