‘I had reoccurring dreams that my friend who practised witchcraft was on the wrong path. Through a series of 2-3 dreams and uncannily timed text messages, I discovered she was plotting to murder her (abusive) father and run away to another county. They found the plans in her drawer, under a dead crow she had mutilated as a sacrifice to make it happen – the crow was hollowed out, stitched up, and smelled like spices. No trace of rot. She disappeared off the internet shortly after and only sends me an email every once in a while to let me know she’s ok…’

‘My story is about something that happened to my Mum. Her mother had been battling breast cancer for two years and was very ill; she had lost a lot of weight, had no hair and looked generally very ill and had done for a long time by this point. One night, my mum had a dream where her mother came to her, dressed in beautiful colourful clothing, looking like the picture of health and told her that she had three weeks left to live. Three weeks to the day after my mum had that dream, her mother passed away.’

‘When I was 9, I went on my first family holiday to Dominica. In the days leading up to the flight, I had dreams that I was already there, but I’d always cross paths with this random woman. I would wake up with a human bite mark on my arm in the spot she touched me as she walked by. When we got to Dominica, we visited some family member’s house and a woman I’d never met asked me how my arm was feeling, and handed me some ointment for it. I never told anyone about my arm until after that conversation, and my mum said it was a “witch bite” and that I had to confront the witch in my dream to make her leave me alone, and I did! I was scared but I told her to go away or I’d tell my mum about her or something. The bite started to fade away in the following days.’

‘My friend and I arrived at another friend’s house, and he welcomed us in. As he was just about to pray, we all started hearing thumping upstairs, but presumed it was his housemates. Then, the doors started banging. Not only that – everyone in the house started speaking in a language we had never heard before. After this, my friend and I both felt a little on edge as goosebumps had overcome us. We ended up speaking to an Imam (Muslim priest), and he warned us that we could have been in the presence of a Jinn. Both of us felt incredibly uneasy, like something was still watching us. However, we both prayed our nightly prayers and decided to go to sleep with the Quran playing in the background. Around 2 am the following morning, my friend’s laptop turned off, and the Quran stopped playing. He awoke with agony in his chest, which prompted us to head to the hospital. We spent the next several days there as it appeared that something struck the outside of his heart, damaging it. He has not fully recovered since…’

‘Once, we were driving to my grandparents’ house: my brother drove the car with me and my dad while my mother drove behind us. At a certain point, when I was practically asleep, my brother started speeding up to 180km/h. It scared me awake, and my dad and I urged him to slow down. He didn’t. The next day, he began to throw up. His vomit has strange lumps and inexplicable shapes. His face was practically blue, and he was oddly quiet. We called a local priest who, upon walking into the home, held my brother’s face, looked him deep in the eyes and asked him what he had seen. Eventually, my brother revealed that he had seen a banshee, with long, stringy black hair and a white gown, crouched over my mother’s car while making eye contact with him through the rearview mirror. He was trying to outrun her that night to keep us safe. The highway we were on, Karak, is one of the most haunted in Malaysia. There are even movies about it.’

Story #6
Nazli and Claudia, 23
We moved to a flat in East London for our first year of uni. Before moving in, we noticed the flat was thickly painted over, and some wires and sockets were completely glued to the wall. Nazli’s mother thought to check the previous tenant’s letters, still kept in a pile at the kitchen counter when we moved in, as Nazli was new to the country and wanted to know the procedure for bills and taxes. There were multiple NHS letters about an unvaccinated child. There were also many letters for a man called Sergio. The ones that concerned us most were the ones from his workplace, warning him to show up or he would be fired; they started as concerned and became more hostile as time passed. All the letters stopped 6 months before we moved in. We looked up Sergio and found his Instagram, where we found that he has been part of some gambling circles. We want to mention three incidents of haunting. (1) Once, Claudia felt a small figure sit on the corner of her bed while she slept. The next morning, she asked Nazli why she did that (spoiler alert, she didn’t). We believe this might have been the ghost of the child. (2) Every time we had an opinionated discussion, the lights would flicker when we assumed, Sergio disagreed with us. Our friends gave us confused looks when we exclaimed “Sergio!!!” at the lights gleefully during heated debates. (3) We had a record player that would only glitch at a certain spot in the flat. But the sound created was not distorted music, it sounded demonic — straight from a horror movie.
