Designer of the day: Emma Reynaud

Vintage lunch box purses, sunglasses made of compostable materials or upcycled beer towel sweaters: Stitch Up! selects the most creative and eco-friendly fashion designers of the moment. Characterised by their inventiveness and ethicality, these pieces are the perfect definition of what a green fashion collection can be.

Today, we will be exploring the work of talented French designer Emma Reynaud.

Founded by French ballet dancer and celebrity stylist Emma Reynaud in 2019, Marcia is a womenswear brand that proves sexy and eco-friendly can go perfectly together. Inspired by the 80s creative spirit, the brand was named after the song Marcia Baïla of the famous pop-rock extravagant French band Les Rita Mitsouko. In addition, all of the designs are named after French songs sung by women. This love for music is also expressed by the designer in the playlists she created and added directly on Marcia’s website.

Marcia “offers women a sexy and comfortable wardrobe that makes them feel powerful and daring, all the while being respectful towards the environment”, says Reynaud in a 2020 Vogue interview. From the packaging to the fabric used, everything is developed in a way that’s respectful to the environment. The designs are made out of an Italian green fabric called Econyl, which is a regenerated nylon made of waste found in landfills and oceans. These materials can then be recycled and transformed into new garments. Marcia’s production is crafted in local French factories to reduce their footprint, and the shipping is made through biodegradable envelopes.

Our favourite is the Tchikiboum pink dress with Swarovski crystal buttons, placed on both sides of the dress, unveiling some skin and allowing a sexy nighttime twist to it. Comfy and suitable for various occasions, the dress can also be worn unbuttoned over pants, biker shorts or chain underwear.
