Vintage lunch box purses, sunglasses made of compostable materials or upcycled beer towel sweaters: Stitch Up! selects the most creative and eco-friendly fashion designers of the moment. Characterised by their inventiveness and ethicality, these pieces are the perfect definition of what a green fashion collection can be.
Today, we will be exploring the work of the talented designer Rosie Evans.
Rosie Evans is a young Welsh corset designer, discovered on Les Fleurs Studio – the coolest multi-brand upcycling platform. Informing and inspiring her consumers to shop more consciously, she creates unique pieces using second-hand fabric and vintage finds. Individualism is fundamental to her work: she creates pieces that can only make you stand out in a crowd.
Her latest collection Quick, let’s go mad together presents both male and female pieces. Inspired by the lockdowns she spent in her small town in Wales, the pieces are comfy and bucolic at the same time. She shot the campaign during the last days of summer (before the second lockdown) which features two lovers frolicking in forests and green fields. Not bothered with gender and clothing traditions, Rosie Evans often likes to put corsets on her male models.
Using the art of patchwork at his finest, Evans created beautiful sweaters and jumpers for this collection, sewing together sustainably sourced British wool, old crochet pieces, vintage blankets and second-hand 90s woven rugs. She also used donated wool from her Welsh community and some of her aunt’s marathon medal ribbons.
Lately, Rosie Evans collaborated with Bethany Williams on her All Our Children collection which helps The Magpie Project provide safe places for mothers and their children. For this Evans created two beautiful patchwork corsets with the name of the collection hand-painted on them.
