It has been almost a decade without a Star Wars film. But luckily, one is on the way.
Continuing on the back of the hit TV series, The Mandalorian, the upcoming sci-fi fantasy movie is almost here. The tale will follow Din Jarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu (Baby Yoda) on a new adventure, working for the New Republic.
Nada Miktari, 26, is an architect and digital artist who creates posters for clients like Empire and Lucasfilm. She’s also a huge Star Wars fan. Here are her thoughts on the highly anticipated new picture.
What was so appealing to fans about the original show?
It came at the right time. It had such originality. It was an authentic take, and it revealed a very mysterious type of character. Mandalorians have always had that mystery with their helmets and their armour, and this bounty hunter [archetype]. It was really interesting to see a story about that for a change, instead of Jedi and Siths. So that’s always really appealing. Obviously, Grogu had a big influence that no one expected or was really ready for. That made the rush happen for Mando.
What are your thoughts on Din Jarin removing his helmet?
I was shocked. I’m not mad about it. I don’t mind it. I mean, it’s Pedro Pascal, it’s fine, he’s a great actor anyway, so I think it’s cool. I’m wondering how often we’ll see him without his helmet in the new movie, because I think we kind of lost a bit of mystery there, or this cool vibe he had as a bounty hunter. But I’m not too mad about it, and quite like it.
What would you like to see from Grogu in this movie?
I haven’t thought much about Grogu for this movie. I think it’s just cute. I don’t know where this one’s gonna go. To be fair, I think it’d be interesting to see more of his training and what he can do. I’m really interested to also see how the father-son bond grows, especially after the last season. I know they bonded really well, but at the same time, I’m curious to know what else happened. Where is this story actually gonna lead to?
What was your reaction to the depiction of Rotta the Hutt, Jabba’s nephew?
He kind of freaked me out. I can’t remember if I’m right about this. Maybe this is fake Star Wars fan vibes. But I swear he was in the Clone Wars, and that was always a funny one. And childhood memories like that freak me out a little bit, but I’m curious to see what else happens. I do love when they bring back characters with these really niche moments from shows or movies from your childhood, like very background characters and then they just put them front and center. I love that thing about Star Wars.
If this film is received well, what could it mean for the future of Star Wars?
The big question. I’m hoping that we get more movies for Star Wars. I enjoy and love the series that they’ve been releasing, especially Andor. But there are moments when I’m like, “this could have been insane on a big screen.” I would have loved to have watched Andor in the cinema. The energy that cinema brings, I would love to see more of that for Star Wars. That’s the first thing.
Then for the future of Star Wars otherwise, in terms of timelines and story lines, I’m not too sure. I just think there’s just so much of the Star Wars world that we could get into. Maybe they’ll just do more adaptations for movies. I’m never feeling bad about having more Star Wars. I always welcome it.
The Mandalorian and Grogu releases in cinemas May 22.
