Cornwall foodbank receives 7 tons of leftover G7 food

Following the G7 summit, seven tons (7000 kilograms) of leftover food was donated to a local Cornwall foodbank.

The food was made up of 3000 leftover breakfasts that were intended for security and police at the summit.

It was sent to Camborne, Pool, and Redruth foodbank who then distributed the majority of the food, which included yogurt and fruit to local schools and breakfast clubs.

The rest was then put into storage at the foodbank’s Camborne headquarters for distribution later.

The foodbank is based at the Centenary Methodist Church and serves some of Cornwall’s most deprived communities.

The head of CPR foodbank told the BBC that he was “pleased they thought outside the box and gave it away.”

It was distributed by CHAOS group (Community Helping All of Society), a local group that works to provide support across the local community.

He added, “A lot of children will have benefited and it helps to keep the costs down to schools.”

6,500 officers were drafted in from the Devon and Cornwall police force to attend the G7 event which saw world leaders take place in discussions over three days at Carbis Bay, near St Ives.
